Welcome back to the Podcast Guide’s Friday show from DailySplice.com. Today is Friday, and this is what we’ve got for you:

Tip of the Week:

Ever heard the term micro-podcasting? It’s basically like micro-blogging except for audio. While back, I wrote a post reviewing a number of services that let you micro-podcast using a phone. These services included:

Cute Podcasters:

It’s a lot easier to have a popular podcast when you’re cute (which is why our podcast is so popular). This, of course, goes for video podcasts more than audio. Who do you think is the cutest podcaster?

A. Cali Lewis from Geek Brief | Website | Podcast Station
B. LaLa from Tiki Bar TV | Website | Podcast Station
C. Amy Mac from Fitness Attack | Website | Podcast Station
D. Marina Orlova from Hot for Words | Website | Podcast Station
E. Alex Albrecht from Diggnation | Website | Podcast Station

Genre of the Week: Healthy Podcasts

On Wednesday we had an interview with the folks from Dr. Tea. Here are some more healthy podcasts to check out:

NPR: On Health Podcast | Website | Podcast Station
ABC Medical Minute | Website | Podcast Station
Discovery Health Channel | Website | Podcast Station
MicrobeWorld Radio | Website | Podcast Station

The University of California at Berkeley offers an amazing collection of class lectures in podcast or vodcast form. Go to http://webcast.berkeley.edu/ and discover what a terrific job they’ve done. I watched about half the astronomy lectures. I was very impressed.

Welcome to another edition of the Friday Show on the Podcast Guide from DailySplice.com. Not only are we fantastic hosts of the worlds best 7 and a half minute podcast about podcasts that releases 3 episodes per week… at least from Canada… or BC… or at least from Victoria, but we are also the guys behind DailySplice.com which is the greatest podcast directory and tool known to mankind. On DailySplice you can put all your favorite podcasts together, so check it out. Here’s what’s on for today:

Tip of the Week:

If you’re thinking about starting a podcast to document your adventures (or misadventures), think about how much content you want to give your audience. I’ve found that I tend to enjoy podcasts that are in the 5-10 minute range. Any longer than that and I lose interest; any shorter, and I feel like I want more. There is some leeway here, of course; some topics just can’t be compressed into 5 or 10 minutes, but those tend to be very niche subjects. Plus, the burden on you as a new podcaster is lessened a lot if you keep it short. Learning how to record, edit, and publish can be a nontrivial task. It’ll take a few months to get the process smoothened out, so make it easy on yourself and your listeners by keeping the amount of content to a comfortable minimum.

Survey Question of the Week:

Where would be the ideal place to listen to your favourite podcasts?

A. At work
B. At home
C. In your car
D. At the gym
E. During lunch or coffee breaks

Genre of the Week: Tech News

Last Wednesday we released an interview with Andy from SDR News. Some other tech news podcasts you may want to check out are:

Thinking about doing a video podcast. If you are, get ready for a learning curve. Knowing what equipment to use is a task in itself, and deciding how to publish your video is an important decision as well. Many people will post their video both in podcast form and on Youtube. Make sure you release your videos as a .M4V file; that way, people with iPods and iTunes can play them. When you upload them to Youtube, they’ll be converted for you. I’ve seen some podcasts release as a Flash video (FLV). Not a good idea.

Welcome back to the Podcast Guide’s Friday show from DailySplice.com, which is a little website we like to call the best podcast directory every to be built in this universe. Today we’ve got a lot on the agenda which is as follows:

Tip of the Week: Podcasting with WordPress

You may know WordPress as a blogging tool, but did you know it is also a fantastic podcasting tool? With the latest version of WordPress on your server, combined with a plugin called PodPress, you can create a new podcast feed and start uploading new episodes in minutes.

Survey Question of the Week: Audio Signatures

People’s first impression of a podcast has a lot to do with the way they will receive the entire show and also affects their loyalty. It’s a good idea to create a professional quality audio signature at the beginning of your show to set the expected standards and make it memorable. Which of these audio signatures do you think is best?

A. Ask a Ninja | Website | Podcast Station
B. CNET Daily Tech News | Website | Podcast Station
C. Fitness Attack | Website | Podcast Station
D. Daily Giz Wiz | Website | Podcast Station
E. CBC News | Website | Podcast Station

Genre of the Week: Fitness Podcasts

Welcome to the first edition of the Friday Show on the Podcast Guide. We’ve been switching around our Friday format, checking out what you like and like even better… and we think you’ll like this Friday format best of all! I’m Rian and I’m with Lewis from DailySplice.com. On DailySplice you can put all your favorite podcasts together, so head over to DailySplice.com and see how much you love our directory and tools we’ve been building tirelessly for the past year.

Tip of the Week:

If you’re looking to get into podcasting, but don’t know what kind of services you need to host your files, listen up. Try libsyn (liberated syndication) (libsyn.com) , which provides all the tools you need to manage your podcast and upload your media files. You won’t have to worry about hosting or content delivery. Just upload your media files, and you’re ready to go. The downside is you don’t get your own domain name (e.g. dailysplice.com). If you’re comfortable enough to create your own web page as a front-end to your podcast, try dreamhost.com. They have really cheap plans and a large community.

Survey Question of the Week:

The album art is important for attracting new listeners. When I’m looking at a bunch of podcasts on a directory, I judge the quality of a podcast partially on the album art. If there is no album art, or it’s not very catchy, I’m conclude that that podcast is not particularly well-made. It’s like movies at the store: people are more likely to rent a movie that has an interesting-looking cover. So, which podcast do you think has the best album art?

A: Indiefeed Dance | Website | Podcast Station

B: Ask Blackie | Website | Podcast Station

C: CBC Radio 3 New Music Canada Track of the Day | Website | Podcast Station

CBC Radio New Music Track of the Day logo

D. 100 Word Stories | Website | Podcast Station

E. Podington Bear | Website | Podcast Station
